a film by Heather Young

Canada, 75 mins.

Donna has recently been convicted of “driving while impaired” and is ordered to perform community service at the local animal shelter. When an elderly dog is scheduled to be euthanized, Donna decides to take the dog home and quickly realizes his companionship can ease her loneliness. In a futile attempt to fill the emptiness she feels, Donna begins to take home more and more animals, and she is soon in over her head. Wanting to work with non-professional actors, Young found her lead actress during one of her early part time jobs working in a doggy daycare.  Shan MacDonald was a client and Young reached out to her on Facebook, explaining, ”When we were doing auditions for Murmur I really wanted someone who had a genuine connection to animals and had a genuine and very real kind of love for animals.”   This film is heart-wrenching and heart-warming and everything in between.
