Born in November 1922 in the Circle City, Kurt Vonnegut Jr. had deep ties to Indianapolis that stem back generations. From visitindy.com: "The beloved, yet cantankerous author Kurt Vonnegut Jr. grew up in Indy and penned many of his famous novels like 'Breakfast of Champions' or 'Cat's Cradle' based on the city's sights, sounds, and even its people. In fact, Vonnegut once was quoted: 'All my jokes are Indianapolis. All my attitudes are Indianapolis. My adenoids are Indianapolis.' " Vonnegut eventually relocated in New York, where he died in 2007. This film is a true story based on his final letter of inspiration.
